At soulrefresher we understand how busy your lives are and want to bring you a more digestible and ‘filtered approach’ to well being. It’s hard to make time for most things, even the essentials during your week so we’d like to make it easier for you to learn more about wellbeing.

Each month we will spotlight a new topic related to life balance and wellbeing.As part of our feature we’ll look at the ‘who, what, where, when, how and why’ that’s involved helping to give you an overview and some practical tips. We’ll look at some hard facts, expert opinions and of course our own personal experience. Hopefully, some of our soulrefresher readers will be able to share some of their experiences too.

September/October Spotlight _ Meditation

What is meditation?

Meditation can be described as a short, leisurely break for the mind that gives the soul new strength. It has the potential to bring great benefit to people who practice it through creating calm in body and mind. Even 5 minutes in a restful and relaxed state of mind can have great value.

Many people perceive meditation as being something they ‘are not into’ or ‘cannot get’. However meditation is something that must be practiced in order to gain benefit from it. Like with any new hobby or skill it is important that you train your body and mind to become proficient. Meditation is no different. The great thing about meditation is that it can happen anytime, anywhere and in any way. Read more about meditation on the soulrefresher’s website.

Although the soulrefresher team has been working with meditation for many years we still maintain a healthy skepticism and look to science to see the positive benefits of meditation. A  focus of scientific research for years, there are many studies linking regular meditation practice to changes in metabolism, blood pressure, brain activation, and other mind and bodily functions. During the month we will be posting interesting features which open up the area of meditation for discussion including; BBC Meditation documentary series, research carried out with Tibetan monks and an overview of scientific research.
